In the June 2020 issue of The Wine Advocate, Mark Squires reviewed recent vintages of Virginia wine, and Glen Manor Vineyard’s 2019 Sauvignon Blanc and 2019 Petit Manseng each scored a 92 and enthusiastic praise.
Here are some of the highlights:
“Top [Virginia] wineries and wines are making it work, however, and there are more of them, so that’s nice to see. Glen Manor, for instance, makes relatively rich and sexy reds with some stuffing.”
“Finally, for the 2019s, all whites and pinks, let’s let Rachel Stinson and her interesting pinks start us off: ‘2019 was a beautiful vintage. Hot, dry weather during the late summer/early fall led to raisining…. This concentrated flavors and sugar levels as the grapes ripened, yielding rich, age-worthy wines. We find the 2019 rosés particularly expressive.’ They were intriguing. In fact, the pinks are a highlight of this report. They were an impressive group, including from Glen Manor…
The first hints of 2019 look very fine, in short, although it is true that pinks are early picked as a rule. They are not always representative. There were also some fine whites. Glen Manor’s benchmark Sauvignon Blanc and equally fine Dry Petit Manseng were simply terrific, for instance.”
